Encore’s previous consultancy engagements and experience span a wide area of topics and themes. The following is a partial list of our previous work:

Health Care Financing

  • We conducted a comprehensive feasibility study on Community-based Health Insurance (CBHI) for Abt Associates Inc. The project was financed by USAID and was conducted in 4 pilot regions and 12 woredas/districts. The scheme is now being implemented in some of the pilot woredas in line with the recommendations of the study
  •  Encore conducted a comprehensive assessment of the status of the new fee-waiver system which is a component of the Health Care Financing Reform of the Federal Government of Ethiopia. The assessment was based on data collected from 41 woredas/districts in 3 regions. The project was financed by USAID and subcontracted to Encore by Abt Associates Inc.

Standards for Fixed Assets and Supplies

  •   Encore organized and led a high level expert team established to develop standards for fixed assets and supplies frequently procured by budgetary institutions of the Federal Government of Ethiopia. The project falls within the Public Financial Management Reform Program of the Federal Ministry of Finance & Economic Development and was funded by the World Bank.

Corporate Governance

  • We developed a corporate governance manual and provided training on the same subject to more than 60 newly elected members of the board of directors working under the umbrella of the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations (Financed by UNDP).
  • Encore designed and offered a training on corporate governance to members of the board of directors and the senior management of the Bank of Abyssinia
  • A senior staff member of Encore participated in the preparation of a project document for introducing corporate governance within the business community (commissioned by the Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations) and participated in the preparation of the corporate governance section of Ethiopia’s Self-Assessment Report submitted to the African Peer Review Mechanism (under the African Institute of Management, Development and Governance)  

Participatory Strategic Planning

  • Encore developed a growth strategy for the country office of the Christian Children Fund of Canada operating in Ethiopia by involving its local partners
    and assisted many local NGOs and associations (Grace Baptist Church Development Program, Beza Lehiwot Association, Mih Lewotatoch, Wegen Aden, Women Support Association, etc) in the preparation of their strategic plan using a participatory planning approach

Training Needs Assessment, Training Material Development & Roll out of Training Modules

  • Encore staff developed a total of 13 training modules for Save the Children USA, piloted the modules, and provided ToTs on selected modules to staff of local partners of the PC3 (Positive Change) Program of the Client (Financed by USAID)
  • Commissioned by Atos Consulting Ltd of U.K, Encore staff developed and delivered training on Leadership, Decision Making, Performance Management and Team Building to middle and senior staff of the Charities and Societies Agency of Ethiopia 
  • Under the Private Health Sector Program of Abt Associates Inc., Encore rolled out a Finance for Non-financial Managers training targeting owners of private health clinics in Addis Ababa, Oromia, Amhara and SNNP Regions (Financed by USAID)
  • Encore developed 4 training modules on Facilitation Skills, Communication Skills, Documentation Skills and Leadership Skills for Project Concern International – Ethiopia and delivered the same to project staff and participants from partner organizations.
  • Encore conducted a training needs assessment and developed a training manual on Leadership Skills and Reproductive Health and Family Planning for the Ethiopian Public Health Association and delivered the training to a total of 195 health professionals and woreda leaders in North and South Wollo, Amhara Region.
